Alignment Comparison helps users evaluate and compare different business architecture domains across various organizational units. By following the steps outlined in this document, you will be able to perform a thorough alignment comparison, which is essential for strategic decision-making and organizational improvement.

The Alignment Comparison tool allows you to:

  1. Select a Business Architecture Domain: Choose the relevant domain, such as Capability or Strategy, to compare.

  2. Select Business Architecture Domain Criteria: Assess domains based on relevance, quality, and quantity.

  3. Select Organizational Units and States: Compare different organizational units and their states (Past, Current, Proposed Future, Approved Future).

  4. Select Versions: Choose specific versions of documents within the selected states to compare.

  5. View the Comparison: Review the data to identify similarities, differences, and alignment between organizational units.

This tool is invaluable for analyzing how closely different parts of the organization align with strategic goals, industry standards, and comprehensive documentation requirements. Alignment comparison

Business Architecture Alignment Comparison allows users to evaluate and compare different business architecture domains between various organizational units. Follow these steps to perform a comprehensive alignment comparison:

Select a Business Architecture Domain

  1. In the menu, choose Alignment > Comparison.

  2. Choose the relevant business architecture domain you wish to compare (e.g., Capability, Strategy, etc.).

Select Business Architecture Domain Criteria

  • Relevance: Assess how closely the domain data aligns with the organization’s strategic goals.

  • Quality: Evaluate the documentation’s adherence to industry standards, specifically ISO 9001 for documents.

  • Quantity: Determine the comprehensiveness of the documentation against ISO 9001 requirements.

Select the First Organization Unit to Compare

  1. Select the first organizational unit you wish to compare (e.g., Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)).

Select the State of the First Organization Unit

  1. Select the appropriate state for "Organisation unit 1".

    • Past: Documents related to various past states of the program (historical data, previous versions).

    • Current: Documents relevant to the ongoing state of the program (active documents in use).

    • Proposed Future: Documents pertaining to proposed future states (plans, proposals, strategic documents).

    • Approved Future: Documents approved for future implementation (finalized future state documents).

Select the Version Within the State

  1. Choose the version of the documents you want to compare within the selected state (e.g., Version 1.2).

  2. When this is done, the first organizational unit is highlighted in the mind map.

Select the Second Organization Unit to Compare

  1. Select the second organizational unit you wish to compare (e.g., Safety Assurance and Compliance).

Select the State of the Second Organization Unit

  1. Repeat the steps from selecting the state of the first organizational unit for the second organizational unit.

    • Choose the appropriate state (e.g., Proposed Future B).

Select the Version Within the State

  1. Choose the version of the documents you want to compare within the selected state (e.g., Version 2.1).

  2. When this is done, the second organizational unit is highlighted in the mind map.

View the Comparison

  • Below the mind map (or where the mind map was if it has been hidden), the selected business architecture domain data for each organizational unit is displayed side by side.

  • Review the data to identify similarities, differences, and alignment between the organizational units.

By following these steps, users can effectively perform a business architecture alignment comparison, facilitating strategic decision-making and organizational improvements.

Hiding the Mind Map

To hide the mind map and display only the comparison data, click the down arrow located to the right of the map. This will collapse the map section, allowing for a focused view of the comparison data.
